Mary's response to Jim's short story "Greta"

This story is moving and compellingly real. I could feel the shock of the experience of this character as he discovers the compelling truth about his condition. Truthfully, the experience of reading this story brought me to near tears.
I remember the days, now long gone, of the dedicated "candy stripers," as they were called. The realness of the dedication the young girls put forth to become nurses is unfathomable in today's pragmatic society. I like the passing of time in that the fact a candy striper helped the character, a character that could only exist prior to the event (assuming the fictional event is set in today's world--one would assume so, since this story has no relative date in context).
Jim put together an event that could be felt from the heart, and is one that draws this reader to a level brought about by the emotions of change which were experienced as the story unfolded. I thought that the experience and the writing itself is well done, and is carefully portrayed, as the scene of this sensitive event unfolds.
