Sean Brodie's Response to Peter Zega's "The Dance Mach 5"

The story is about a teenage boy who is riding with his friend Chase to a high school dance event. He is nervous about dancing because he doesn't know how to dance, but Chase is confident that he would be fine. They arrived at the school, Chase gets out the car, but the boy stays in the car to get high because it makes him relax, so he could dance. His friend caught him smoking and gets him out of the car and into the gym. There were a lot of people that filled up the room and the bowl of punch was spike with liquor. Chase still believed the boy could dance, and leaves him to be with his girl Jackie. The boy heads over to the punch bowl and meets a girl named Mary Quinton. He talks to her about the punch being spiked and falling in love with the girl. The DJ plays a song called "S-s-s-s A-a-a-a F-f-f-f E-e-e-e T-t-t-t Y-y-y-y Safety Dance" and the girl ask him if he wants to dance. Chase and Jackie were dancing with no care in the world what anyone thinks of them, so the boy listens to the lyrics of the music, and begins to dance the night away with Mary.

This story reminds me of a 50's or 80s movie. I love the way he described the feelings and dialogue of the characters to get a since of what they are about. For example, I felt that Chase was a cool, laid back, and confident guy. The boy was a nervous wreck, that worries too much, and needs to kick back a bit and have fun. Mary seem like an ordinary girl who just looking to have fun. The story was amazingly well-written. I really got into the story and I don't think there is anything that could be added to it.
